12:19: I didn't sleep too well last night, about as much as I did at Muriel Lake. There was no wind and it was extremely quiet. I didn't sleep with my long johns on, just sweats. As the night went on it got colder and colder. I slept in till about 9:30. When I got up I took a walk to the south side of the lake where I took some pictures of French Canyon to the south, and our camp to the north. I ate breakfast, got dressed in normal clothes, and put on sunblock. Now I'm sitting by the lake watching Dad fish.
19:00: It took 3 hours, but Dad finally caught a trout. He didn't catch anything else despite fishing for a total of 7 hours today. At about 15:00, clouds started building up in the north and east. A couple of hours later it started to rain. I got out my plastic poncho, which did the job, but would be horrible to wear in prolonged heavy rain. I need to start looking into buying some rain gear. It will be expensive, so I will have to make sure the time is right. For dinner, I had the Hearty Beef Stew. It wasn't very good. I have quite a bit of lunch food that I'm not going to be able to finish. I figured out what I'm going to get Jenny from up here: an arrangement of alpine flowers. There are so many colors. I think it will be beautiful. I'm really starting to miss Jenny and Lassen. I'm also starting to miss normal food. Only a couple days left. I love it up here, but I could use a lot of conveniences of the city. I hope I sleep well tonight, though I doubt I will. Tomorrow we hike to Lower Pine Lake, which no doubt is swarming with flies, mosquitoes, horses and people.
