Yosemite June 2006

We are heading up to Rancheria Falls around Hetch Hetchy in Yosemite. Mike, Carl, and myself will be going. It will be a one-night trip, and the hike in will be long. But there's not much elevation gain until the last couple miles, and the elevation is below 5000 feet, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Plus, I've lost a significant amount of weight since last year, and test hikes have already shown that there is a noticable difference in endurance.

Rancheria Falls is supposed to be prime bear country. Based upon pictures, it looks like it is going to be gorgeous, though there may be quite a few other backpackers. I'm testing out a few new things for this trip. For one, I'm bringing a slingshot. In addition to the potential for protecting against aggressive bears (who knows if it would actually work), it should provide me with some entertainment. I'm also sure that I want to get some new shorts to go over my bike shorts. It will make me more decent, but it also gives me some pockets, which I've recently found is valuable.
