8:54: I slept fairly well last night. I woke up only a few times between 10:00pm and 4:00am. But then I was waking up every 15 minutes because I was either uncomfortable or hot. At about 5:45am I convinced Jenny to come out and watch the sunrise. There's a large area of granite rock to the south of camp that we climbed. It took quite a while for the sun to rise and I took a couple pictures of it. After sunrise Jenny and I finished our night's sleep up on the rocks until the sun was making us hot. The tent has condensation on the inside again, but it should dry within a couple hours. We will probably take a morning day hike, then come back and relax the rest of the day.
15:51: After breakfast we started on a day hike. We walked south to a ridge overlooking Bear Lake, then headed back north on the east side of the lake. We went through a very large meadow where we saw lots of marmots, so we called it Marmot Meadow. There I decided I wanted to go with Dad up to the top of the large granite mountain east of the lake.
We hiked to near the base of it where Jenny sat. It took about 40 minutes to get to the rocky ledge Jenny was going to direct us too. At the top were some awesome views of the meadow and Bear Lake to the south, and the numerous ranges to the east, possibly reaching 100 miles away. It was a very tiring hike/climb. So on the way back I wanted to take it easy. We scrambled down as best we could, and when we got back to Jenny I was really tired and thirsty.
We hiked back to camp and went off to the lake for swimming. I went in for a quick swim, then got back up to relax. I stayed in the sun a little too long and got a sunburn on my neck and shoulders. I went back to camp to get my fleece, which helps a bit, but it will feel better when the sun goes down more.
19:11: Well, tonight is our last night here, and tomorrow's hike, though not near my hardest, will be the hardest of the trip. I hope I sleep well tonight. I find myself hoping time would go faster so I could get back home. But I know that when I get home I will wish I was here. It's a shame I can't seem to soak up all the time I spend here. I guess if I went more often, say overnighters, I would feel better in this respect. The good thing is that Jenny is really enjoying herself on this trip, and she may be more inspired to do more hikes as she gets more in shape. Having Jenny here has make this trip so much better. Maybe next hike we will be able to take the dog.
